Musicians using Frame Drums
Monday, February 18th, 2008There are so many frame drums to choose from but my favorite by far is the Brazilian pandeiro. It’s sort of like a tambourine but made with tougher materials. It needs to be though because it gets a beating! In Brazil there are musicians who only play this instrument and sometimes juggle several of them and play them at the same time. It’s pretty nuts. Hard to play too. Basically, you hold the frame drum at the bottom with one hand, using the index and forefinger to dampen the head and then strike over the top with the other hand. It’s great for developing forearm strength and it has a really unique sound.
