The Mysterious Origins of the Bodhran
The Bodhran is a popular type of frame drum, traditionally made from goatskin. Nowadays, it might be made from synthetic material, or other material such as kangaroo skin. The name bodhran is thought to have originated in the British Aisles, although it has been noted that it bears many similarities to drums used in the Mediterranean region. Even though there is a possibility that it might be Spanish, North African, or Roman in origin, the name is likely derived from the Irish Gaelic word “bodhar,” which means “deaf” or “dull-sounding.” This instrument has been introduced into Irish music, and has, for the most part, replaced the job of the tambourine.
